Staff Profile

Abigail Ashby
Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2014 I had an eclectic career in the NHS. For 12 years I worked in A&E, becoming a Senior Nurse, then an ENP and ANP.
I studied for my BSc (Hons) ANP at BNU, as well as a PGDip Education, and my specialist area of interest is advanced clinical practice. I have a real passion for this, as I was one of the pioneer students, and understand both the barriers and achievements that this exciting professional developmental role brings to healthcare on every level. Not just for nurses, but for a multitude of healthcare professionals such as pharmacist, physios and paramedics.
My forte and greatest interest is in curriculum design and providing strong leadership in the field of advancing autonomous skills and knowledge. Coupled with a real passion for equipping and enabling learners to achieve high standards of autonomous practice, which contributes to both patient and organisational improvements and benefits.
I am a member of the RCN and NMC.
My specialist knowledge has led me to work with the NHS and private companies, HEE and Academy of Advanced Practice.
My greatest accolade to date is the MSc ACP Apprenticeship programme which was the first to be rolled out in HEIs in 2018.
