What will I study?

We believe that learning doesn’t just take place in the lecture theatre, our Marketing degree has been designed to give you ample opportunity to put your education into practise. Companies join us from industry to set live briefs for you to complete, allowing you to directly apply what you have been learning whilst developing your skills through working with a real-life business. Companies we have previously worked with include, Hovis, Sacla’, Buckinghamshire Mind and One Can Trust.

The BA (Hons) Marketing course will cover the impact on business and the consumer of the changing digital landscape and the evolving implications on the relationship between marketing and the wider sphere of the organisation and the external environment. Understanding consumer behaviour, the role of digital marketing communications, the importance of the customer experience and role of branding are key areas covered within the course. During your foundation year you will have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals needed to progress to undergraduate study. You will study topic areas like, creativity, self-development, responsibility, business studies and inquiry-based learning to provide you with a solid basis for your study of marketing.

 

In your first year you will study a broad range of topics including, marketing principles, consumer psychology, organisational behaviour and data insight for business decisions to solidify your understanding of the foundations of business and marketing.

During your second year, you will further your understanding and develop your skills through topics, including, business consulting, strategic marketing, business economics and customer experience. During this year you will be expected to begin to expand and refine your independent research and study skills in preparation for your final year.

In your final year, the emphasis will be on transitioning you from student to graduate. You will study a number of topics, ranging from international marketing management to consumer brand relationship. You will also undertake either a dissertation on a topic of your choice or a consultancy project, which involves independent research focusing on strategic business issues.

How will I be taught and assessed?

This course is offered as a four-year programme, including an initial Foundation Year. The Foundation Year will allow you to develop your academic study skills and build confidence in your abilities, identifying your own strengths and development needs for progression onto an undergraduate degree.

The assessment tasks include individual reports, presentations, examinations, enterprise activities and project work in a combination designed to meet the different learning styles of the individual.

At Buckinghamshire New University we like to foster an interactive and student-focused teaching style where we blend lectures, workshops, tutorial sessions, independent study and guest speakers to enhance the learning experience.

Our lecturers work hard to ensure that you learn the latest industry standard practices and knowledge. To support in the delivery of this we also welcome industry experts and professionals to deliver guest lectures, case studies and live briefs to enrich your learning experience and give insight on the latest trends and what companies are looking for.

    To work competitively in the graduate world, you will need to a diverse range of skills and abilities, from being able to work independently to being confident with working collaboratively in a group. The structure of the course allows for you to work with other students to deliver small group projects, giving you the chance to improve your leadership, communication and relationship building skills.

    What are the course entry requirements?

    A typical offer will require a UCAS tariff score of: 32 - 56

    Applicants who do not meet the minimum requirements for the 3-year undergraduate programme, or those who do not feel fully prepared for a Level 4 course, will be considered for the 4-year programme including a Foundation Year.     The University is unable to accept any new applications from students who require sponsorship for a student visa to start in September 2022. This is due to the overwhelming popularity of our courses and visa processing timeframes.  Applications are still being taken from students who are already in the UK and hold the right to study.

    From September 2022, those students living in the UK or Republic of Ireland, and EU nationals with settled status in the UK, will be considered Home students.

    Most courses will involve some additional costs that are not covered by your fees.
