Learn from the experts
Staff within the School of Nursing and Midwifery bring a wealth of clinical expertise in their teaching. As well as receiving top-class lectures and seminars, students are also supported by personal tutors, module leaders and course leaders.
In addition, guest speakers regularly deliver sessions for students within the University to ensure we give a diverse range of views and experiences to our students. These include lectures from expert specialist roles, to sessions speaking with local patients and carers to gain a real understanding of the varied needs of our community.
Leading facilities at your disposal
The School teaches courses across our three campuses (Aylesbury, High Wycombe and Uxbridge), each with their own state-of-the-art simulation facilities. We recognise simulation as an essential part in disseminating the required knowledge, skills and behaviours for student learning.
Within this style of learning, real-time evolving clinical situations can be simulated, repeated and evaluated using reflection and debriefing. This enables students to take an active role in their learning, promoting confidence, developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and helping to gain essential skills and knowledge.
Putting theory into practice
We work closely with a number of NHS Trusts and independent care partners in the region to provide students with clinical placements, both in hospitals and out in the community. Throughout their time on placement, students are exposed to a diverse range of learning experiences supported by practice supervisors, practitioners and practice visitors.
Building on your knowledge
On top of our apprenticeships, undergraduate and postgraduate courses, we also offer a number of Continuing Professional Development courses across our campuses – great for qualified health and social care practitioners to enhance their skills and knowledge. We have a strong track-record of creating and running bespoke training of these courses for NHS Trusts, healthcare services, support groups and charities.
